Shabbat is a day of rest, joy and holiness. Shabbat is a sacred day in Judaism that starts each week on Friday evening. Shabbat is prescribed in the Ten Commandments. We invite you to celebrate Shabbat with us each Friday at Congregation Children of Israel.

The service is warm and spiritual. It includes a balanced variety of English and Hebrew, and our rabbi ensures that the service is meaningful for any guests and visitors. We welcome your children and encourage them to attend services with you and participate when appropriate.Typically, the Friday night service includes a Torah reading and a sermon. Our service lasts approximately one hour. After the service, we gather together in the Social Hall for an Oneg (celebration) in which we mingle and socialize, celebrating our time together as a community. We encourage participation of our members during services, and we are proud to have two different singing groups (the Choir and the Ensemble) that enhance our prayers through their spirit and song.

Rabbi Linder has created audio files that correspond to the prayers that we recite and sing on Shabbat. The prayers are in 3 folders: Friday night, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon/Havdalah. They are named according to the name of the prayer and the accompanying page number in our siddur, Mishkan T'fillah.
